In reviewing their Tidy-Cat litter 27 and 30 pound pail packages, Purina decided is was time to reduce waste. The existing pails used too much plastic. These packages were larger, heavier and costlier than they needed to be.
When Purina approached Gateway, we looked at this as an opportunity to not only offer a “greener” package, but to improve the aesthetics of the pail. While reducing weight and maintaining top load performance, the new “fluted” design was developed.
The traditional wrap-around label was then eliminated in favor of four (4) individual In-Mold Labels; a first for the IMDA (In-Mold Decorating Association) on floating a label within a side panel. Higher
The solution was a new, thin-walled, in-mold labeled container with unique shape and lid design offering improved stacking characteristics and reduced the resin content in the pail.
Resin Savings: 128 grams / pail
Annual Savings: 1.6 million pounds of resin
That’s 9600 barrels of crude (450,000 gallons of gas) not used - the equivalent of 12.3 million miles not driven in an average 2004 passenger car.
